PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Gettysburg College volleyball team split two matches on the second day of the Carnegie Mellon Crossover on Saturday at Sibko Gym, defeating Geneva 30-19, 30-23, 28-30, 32-34, 15-7 before falling to Otterbein 30-25, 29-31, 30-24, 30-19. The Bullets end the tournament with a 2-2 record, but Gettysburg (10-7) has won 10 of its last 13 matches.
Against Geneva (5-8), freshman setter
Amanda Krampf (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) and junior right side
Lauren Thul (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) each recorded double-doubles in the five-game match. Krampf had 42 assists and 27 digs while Thul had 11 kills and 15 digs. Sophomore outside hitter
Meghan McConville (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) was also tied for the team lead with 11 kills in the match. Senior libero
Steph Vial (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) led the Bullets with 29 digs, while senior middle hitter
Caitlyn Barr (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) recorded a team-high three blocks.
Against Otterbein (12-3), Vial recorded a career-high 43 digs. She was two digs shy of tying the Gettysburg match record of 45 digs set by Carla Privateer in 1992. Vial, the Bullets' career digs leader, has recorded a double-digit dig total in 15-of-16 matches this season, and her total for the year stands at 400. Krampf recorded a double-double for the 13th time this season with 41 assists and 19 digs. Junior outside hitter
Katie Heffner (Easton, Pa./Easton) led the Bullets with 13 kills in the loss while Thul and Barr each had 11. Barr recorded a team-high three blocks for the second consecutive match.
Gettysburg returns to action at Johns Hopkins at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
